Where can i get some free drive imaging software? I will save the image to a external hd, so that if my comp goes down i can restore it. will this work?

Yes, it'll work, but I can't think of any free utilities.

you already have a free backup utility built into Windows XP.

simply click:
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup.

the backup wizard will take it from there. copy files to an external hard drive, CD-ROMs, or DVD-ROMs (don't use CDs. it will probably take about a thousand CD-ROMs to backup your entire hard drive).

win xp pro has its own back up utility under system tools
you burning software (nero /roxio) come with one as well
no dought if yousearch for backup software you will find some free ones
