My doctor gave me a perscription for normal saline to be mixed with benadryl and to swish and swallow it?

If you swallow saline which is basically sea water, you will throw up. Gargling saline water however is a different matter since the salt will kill germs. It is a cheap way of getting rid of sore throats. Melt salt in warm water and you will have a good antidote against sore throats.

Hi...another nurse is going to tell you....

YES...it is just fine. Might not taste so great...but it is to assist with spreading the benadryl around. Perhaps you are having an allergy or rash in the mouth?

Either way, just focus on getting well. A little salt won't hurt you. It will help with healing too.

Get well soon.

Normal Saline is just salt water, it is the same pH as blood, which is why it is called "normal", it won't hurt you and is likely just intended as a buffer and carrier for the benadryl.
