This probably seems like a stupid question but I truly need to have it answered. I had Chlamydia twice and worry all the time that it might have scarred my ovaries or something….I’ve had two pap smears since and my cervix seems to be fine but they never actually look internally to check and make sure the tubes and ovaries are fine…..Do I have to go to a fertility specialist to get checked internally or if I voice my concerns to my gynecologist will he check?

Talk to your Gyn, but from my experience Gyn's don't always know what they are doing, especially if you have infertility problems. That is why I see a RE now.

Check Fertility

Yes, start with your gynecologist. Tell him you want to conceive. Make a list of all of your questions/concerns to take to your appointment so you don't forget anything. If he isn't able to help you, then ask him to refer you to a fertility specialist. Most of the time they don't go in and look unless their is a problem. Your past history may warrant such tests, but only your doctor can answer that. If your last 2 paps have been okay, then you will probably get the okay to start trying.

Also, you can get some good info on fertilityfriend.com. Good luck!

My OBGYN did a laparoscopy on me to check my tubes and ovaries. He found I had some endometriosis and was able to remove it. I conceived the very next month. So, in response to Jenmoo, you don't always have to go to a fertility specialist. I guess it depends on the doctor. I happen to have a good one that is continually educating himself and staff with the latest research in fertility options. I'm sure he's not the only one.

You should go to the gynecologist first. He can run some routine tests and do a further physical examination. During an annual exam, most gynos only look at basic stuff like taking your pap, etc. But they can do some more examinations, take some more samples to test for different things. You can go on from there and your gyno can recommend a fertility specialist based on what he finds.

The only stupid questions are ones that are not asked. :) When I was ttc, my gyno helped me until the fertiltiy drug Clomid didn't work. When the clomid didn't work though, she sent me to a fertility specialist. So yes, your reg gyno can and should (if asked) check your tubes and ovaries. He can do blood work to see if you ovulate. Are you trying to become pregnant? Or you just want to ease your mind? Visit the below website; from what I read, it doesn't seem to cause your two concerns. Good luck!

My advice is that you see a fertility doctor. It is a long long long road and if you spend time with an OB/GYN only to be referred to a fertility specialist you'll be more stressed out and patience.

You should have a laposcropy and have your tubes tested to be sure they are clear. It is a surgical procedure.

An OB/GYN can do it, but if he finds a problem, you'll be sent to the fertility doctor.

I did two years with the OB/GYN and was crazed by the time I started with the fertility doctor....

Good News! I'm pregnant!

You should talk to your gynecologist and they can do some tests and check for you. If they see some problems they might have to refer you to a specialist.

Your gyneocologist is there to explain to you your options and explain your body to you. You should ask him everything you don't know and even if he's not the one that can help you, he can tell you what to do and how to go about fixing any probs!
You should ask him about getting scraped. It's not painful, they'll just scrape out whatever is there getting in the way of u getting pregnant!

Your gynecologist IS the specialist, so, yes.
