What's up Rich D!
The only time I have knats in my home is when I buy fruit from the supermarket. The knats like to lay eggs in the nooks and crannies of friut. After a day or two of sitting in the house, the knats appear.
To correct this issue you must do 3 things:
1. Remove the source of the problem (fruit)
2. Place a glass of fruit juice (orange, grape, rasberry) or wine in the room with the knats. The glass should be half full.
3. Let the glass sit for 24hrs and you should notice the knats are all gone and the glass is full of dead critters.
I hope this helps you out man.... Good Luck.

My first question is that it sounds like you may have rodents or birds or some animal that has "bird seed" like food in your home?
If so, you just have to be SUPER diligent with the food.
When I raised guinea pigs, I had 22 in the home...until I started taking the food and putting it in the refrigerator, my home was practically swarming with gnats, that's why I thought of this being the cause first.
If this is not the cause, best thing you can do is get fly strips to catch them until you find and remove the source of them.
Final thought...make sure they're gnats and not termites...to someone who does not know what they look like, they appear the same...so I'd call an exterminator just to make sure your house isn't getting eaten up.

First you have to remove all food/nesting sources. This should start with removing any food throughout the house. Make sure it is all in sealed containers. Once you have done that, you will have to treat all the plants that you have in the house. They use the soil for breeding. They multiply "very" fast. Use a plant spray that you can get at Home Depot, Lowe's or the hardware store. Getting rid of the existing ones will require bug spray and allot of swatting. Good Luck!!!

Gnats are able to come in from outside through screen and anything else. I have found that if you keep you place shut up for a day or two they usually will start to die off. The sweet wine is a great idea.
