Say nothing. Act like a grownup and take the high ground. Behave courteously. Exercising restraint will build character. It's childish to be so concerned with how someone's face looks.

By all means, continue to attend the family functions but do your best to avoid your relative at all costs. Treat the individual as if they're invisible. Upon her arrival, frown at her and continue as you were. Make no attempts to start or engage in conversation, make no eye contact, if she enters a room go into another, if she speaks to you speak back and then immediately excuse yourself.

Therapy. Therapy. Therapy. She is not going anyplace and neither are you.
You are lucky if there's only 'one' smarmy face in the family.

It is a sign of maturity when a person can be pleasant and polite in social situations to those they do not care for. An immature person might choose to say "I hate you" or allow their irrational hatred for another person to ruin family functions.
My advice is to strive to be that mature person. It will serve you well in life.

Why do you feel you need to pretend that you like her? Just avoid her to the point where she asks if you're avoiding her and be truthful with your answer.

If you hate the person, why consider their feelings, or "how" to tell them? Take them aside. and tell them straight out.
