windows security alerts won't allow me to put "on" for antivirus?

i apparently have symantec anitvirus but everytime i click "enable" on the tray, the circle thing dissapears then comes right back on . Also when i click on the red security alerts i can't turn it to "on" on the antiviris portion? any help would be nice

Perhaps your computer have more than one anti virus software, try to disable or uninstall one of them first, you can always check from "add/remove programs" (for installed software) and at "security center" in control panel

also you can check from start -- run -- type:msconfig -- tab startup
to check if your antivirus program include in the startup application (list of applications that start when you start windows)
