I quit smoking. I never enjoyed it-it was a stress or social (when I was out drinking) thing. As for movies, when I see people chain smoking in movies (Bridget Jones for example) it makes me have a craving, same as if I am around other people who are smoking alot. However, no movie or film star influenced my starting smoking. Should we ban drinking, overeating, and illegal drug use from movies as well?

My father smoked while I was growing up, but I did not start until after he quit. He quit 30 years ago. I can't say that I was ever influenced to smoke by movies or famous people. Any more than I would do drugs, which is everywhere in the movies.
I think that if I were to start with a fresh set of lungs, I would probably smoke again. Its that addicting. Its not the chemical part, that can be fixed with patches, gum etc. Its like a friend. Its a fixation that you can't get over. Its like a deeeeep depression comes over me when ever I try to quit (which is a lot) I wish someone could invent a cigarette that wasnt bad for you, because I HATE that I smoke. Its the single biggest regret of my life.

Started smoking young 14-15. Quit a long time ago. Rock stars, movie stars, peers, and low self-esteem are the reasons I smoked. I quit long, long ago, thanks to the urging of my husband and believe it or not, am now allergic to cigarette smoke. Sure it tasted horrible, but at 15, I thought I was really cool with a cigarette in my hand. Really feel smoking should be banned from movies.

I have smoked for 29 years and have enjoyed each and every cigarette I put in my mouth. I was never influenced by anyone to begin or continue smoking. It was my choice! I often say that I'll be one of those people that even if I had cancer, if it was terminal, I would still have one in my hand.

Smoking is incredibly addictive. Yes, most people start due to peer pressure / societal influences. That is why they try it. Once the nicotine gets into your blood, that's it. Per gram nicotine is more addictive than heroin. Some say it's the most addictive substance on the planet. While many start do to societal influences such as movies, and social groups, that's not why they don't quit.

I have smoked for 58 years. It's a nasty habit that consumes your health. It is the one thing I've not been able to overcome.
I think tobacco should be illigal and banned from the whole United States. Then we'd have no choice but to quit. They banned DDT didn't they?

I was not influenced by movies or tv I gave intp peer pressure.......and there is a good chance that I would eventually revert to smoking regardless of the reason for quitting.

My mom smokes and has for as long as I can remember. I read once where children of smokers are more apt to smoke. Well, I HATE cigarettes and everything about them. Out of my Mom's 4 kids, not one of us smokes.
