From what I've read, the vast majority of these questions can be answered with a quick web search or by using Wikipedia. Also, the answers are rarely of any real insight. What really bugs me is when Yahoo! puts these things right next to real news stories without any way of telling the difference between them until you've already clicked the link.

You have to admit for expert like you, probably very easy to know what to search using Google to find what you need. But for a lot of people, they just don't know how to come up with the right terms to do the searching to find the answer. And many non computer-savy people that only check news from Yahoo! News, etc, may not even know about Wikipedia.
So at least Yahoo! Answers can provide a start point for those non computer-savy people.
And we do have a lot of great questions and answers here!!! :)

Yahoo! Answers website is not stupid, but some of the questions are asked just to see how vulgar and tastless some "humans" can be. The website is like other things in life, it is as good or bad, helpful or useless as the people who use it. It's true that some questions can be answered with a bit of research, but sometimes people are looking more for opinions and advice than for actual facts. It is a modern form of discussing groups, socializing groups.etc.

I really wonder what the IQ of people is who don't know for example when the World War I began. And type that to Google or Wikipedia or just anywhere... you'll get it right away! But maybe this is being more like a real time chat-answering service or something... whatever like that. I tried to get a question answered once but got nothing, so I rather tried some other places.

You've got some basic problems here
a) You're asking/telling/complaining to people who USE Yahoo! Answers, so obviously they're not going to think its crap.
b) Why are you bothering posting it here?
c) Why am I bothering replying?
d) Wikipedia isn't always correct, but neither is Yahoo! Anwsers, but at least you get multiple points of view
e) I don't really like Yahoo! Anwsers either, but I just asked a question I couldn't find anywhere on the net after searching for over 20 minutes.
f) I've run out of problems, but "f" isn't bad, eh?

Most of the people ask really good ? You're always going to find some that are totally ridiculous. These people are just so bored or no one else will listen to them. There are many parenting ? where other parents who have been through the same thing wants opinions and a lot of people don't have the time to go searching through the internet.

I don't think that Yahoo! Answers is really stupid, just some of the people that come on here, and try to ruin it for everyone else. It is here for entertainment and our enjoyment, why make more out of it then what it is. It is a good way to help people if they need it, and sometimes even when I look for something on google or what ever, I can 't find the answer that I want, and it helps to have some fresh eyes to help you look. If you don't like it here, then don't come on here... simple as that...

Stupid? Yes. Pointless? Certainly. Fun? Of course! It's also a great way to voice your opinion on subjects that interest you. I also love reading about other people's opinions on various topics... some are really off the wall. It provides a good sampling of the thoughts and beliefs held by groups within society.

Yahoo Answers isn't stupid, 99.9% of the questions asked--and their responses--are.

I've actually learned a few things I didn't know before, but not much.

But how can you have an intelligent and serious forum when people constantly ask idiotic stuff like "What time is it?" or "What are you doing now?" or "What should I have for lunch?"

I actually like Yahoo! Answers. I have asked quite a few questions and have gotten a good, full answer most of the time.
