There is this general perception that people who take up teaching Yoga are people who take it up as a part-time, post retirement plan. I want to seriously take this up as a full-time profession. I have even done a one-month teacher's traiing course from The Yoga Institute. Am wondering if i should go ahead and do the advanced course, also.

It is important to keep in mind that you are not the only person who is interested in yoga and holistic healing... but you are one of the few who might choose it as a profession. That is an entirely different level of interest. The others will be your students.

If you think that this is something that you would like to dedicate your life to, that is the first and most important step to achieving this goal.

The next steps can vary, but I think that you should take these things into consideration:
1. Your Market, and Financial Aspects: How much money do you need to earn in order to live in a way that you would want? Is it possible to earn this much? Do you want to teach at established schools, or start your own school? How much competition is there? How long will it take you to make a profit (pay for training and other initial expenses)?
2. Your Curriculum: What do you have that your competitors do not? If you are on the same level as your competitors, what can you do to give yourself a better opportunity? (Maybe it is important to take the advanced course that you mentioned)
3. Short and Long-Term Planning: Make a clear outline for yourself of what your short-term goals are. Maybe try teaching at an important Bombay school for three years, and then consider opening your own... set clear goals.

To conclude: If you are serious and passionate about it, people will see that in you, and they will find your positive energy a source from which to nurture their own passions. No one will be able to dismiss your career choice as a post retirement plan after seeing how seriously you take it. And hopefully - if you are good - you will be an inspiration for others.

I don't know much about the job market in Bombay in this area, but I'm sure you could check it out. If this is something you are passionate about and can make a living at it I say go for it.
