It really depends where you are driving from.

My wife and I went on our honeymoon back in 2000. We were already in Florida at the time so it wasn't a long drive.

It was very cool to watch. They broadcast the count down and then you see the shuttle take off. The rocket is so bright that it lights up the sky like a sunrise. Then 20 seconds or so later you start to hear the roar of the engines and feel the vibrations in the ground. The commentary continues as you watch the shuttle and can still see it 100 miles away.

The problem is that there is a good chance the mission will be delayed, in which case you will go all that way for nothing. But if you get to see a good one at night it is wonderful to see.

All that said, I've done it once, I would not go out of my way to do it again.

Good chance for a NIGHT launch next time in Dec! It is so cool! I have seem many even the one who that didn't make it! If you are a Fla resident they have a new deal! Buy a one day pass and get in all year even priority seating for the launch! I think it runs out soon so hurry!

Yes! But, the blast of the rockets are an amazing site, and the few seconds you actually get to see the space craft are worth it, but It is a man made beauty which is not as important or delightful as natural beauty.

No... not really. I did it once and I would probably do it again if I was making the decision all over - you know, just to say that I've been there/done that - but you can't get close enough to see it well or to get a real thrill from the thunder of the engines and it does just exactly what you've expected it would - it takes off like a rocket and in ten seconds it gets lost in the sky.... no biggie.

(But Disney World is still a hoot.)
