Politicians, in general, don't do what they say and don't say what they do. They are devoid of ethics and conscience and wear a mask to suit any occasion in public life. They develop good skill in public speaking and can impress masses. Hence the ensuing results are that they become successful politicians with more power and achieve for themselves whatever they desire. All this is more applicable in the context of India where politics has become a lucrative career based on muscle power and without any academic qualification. Politicians are today's monarchs and voting them out has become a difficult task for the law-abiding and helpless general public. Therefore, they continue to enjoy life to the fullest. On the other hand, good people who take up politics with the sole motto of serving the country and doing justice to the public cut a sorry figure since they cannot compete with the 'bad', nay successful politicians. Most of today's problems like unemployment, disparities in all walks of life, corruption at all levels etc. are existing because bad politicians want to thrive. This is a very sad state of affair but cannot be reversed till some revolution takes place!

You've asked the most pressing question of the 21st Century. It has to do with the way our society is set up; race, socioeconomic class, religion, among others.
I give an example: A black male, 21 years old and a whilte male, also 21 years old compete for the same position, both have equal IQ, both attended equally presitigious universities, the white male has a significantly higher chance at landing the ceo position than the black male.
Conversely, the ceos' making 300k a year; Are they really that much more intelligent than say a person making 40k a year? No, but simply because the ceo was born into an aristocratic family do you get such unequal ratios.
So really 'bad politician' is just one part of the whole problem.
But great question though and I hope you find your own answer as you go on in life. We all search for it in different ways.

Mark Foley doesn't seem too happy right now. I'd say he WAS enjoying the "good life" before this weekend - not so much anymore. Jack Abrahmoff ring a bell? Tom Delay? It will eventually catch up with them, just like it does every non-politician who does 'bad' things. Karma is a b*tch. 'Good' people who suffer bring attention to serious issues, learn new strengths they can share, and turn suffering into triumph - inspiring others to do the same. Find strength in your pain...you'll be a better person for it.

Sometimes it seems that the good suffer while the evil are rewarded...but this is never the case in the long run. Karma has a way of biting people in the ***. Retribution is eventually made, the good are rewarded & the evil punished. If not in this life, then in the next (which is the one that counts because Heaven or Hell are for eternity not a mere 80 years or so...) Don't despair!

I guess because these days to be a politician means you have to raise HUGE amounts of money to run, or be a wealthy parent's son, or be rich by havng questionable business dealings. Then, you owe TONS of favors to people, and receive lots of goodies from lobbyists. Plus they have too many other perks.....
Bad politicians, in the world of TV and sound bites, merely have to look good, speak confidently, have charm, and good "handlers"
Could a poor but good and eminently qualified person run for a big office today?. I don't think so.
Some of our best presidents, like Abraham Lincoln and Woodrow Wilson, or politicians who WOULD have made fine presidents, like Adlai Stevenson, (and many others, of course) wouldn't STAND A CHANCE running for office today. It's so sad.

Whatever happens to us is our own karma for the lessons we have to learn.... politicians chose that road.. But good and bad happens to ALL of us, nomatter what path. Sometimes what looks like a bad reward is a good one because we learn more from it.
