‘Vande Mataram” is a salutation to our motherland INDIA in song. Why have you addressed your question to Hindus only??? Each and everyone who lives in India should honour our beautiful country. You say you area Pakistani, well my friend at one time there was no Pakistan; just one big happy India till the British incited the Hindus against the Muslims and vice versa. Finally they split India which gave birth to Pakistan. Therefore Pakistan is very much a part of the original motherland INDIA.
The-Defen you say, “The last two stanza clearly praises devi durga, a hindu deity.” Tell me, when you praise somebody, does it necessary mean that you worship that person??? You are absolutely wrong when you say that Muslims are being forced to follow Indian customs. INDIA is the most tolerant country on this planet. In stark contrast Islamic countries force Muslim customs on all and sundry.

Vande Matram means "Saluting Motherland" Which any one can say, irrespective to caste creed, race and religion. Except Germans -whoc call it fartherland
Now, the controversy is tha tit praises Godess Durga of Hindu mythology. But does that mean that Hindus are anti Muslim? No please No. I am not supporting any religion, but lets look at it this way, There are lots of Islam followers in India, than in Pak or Saudi. So India is bigger Muslim country, They dont humiliate Islamic religion by disgracing Allah or an yprophet or breaking the phot-frame. BUT what happens when any Hindu takes Photo frame of Hindu god to any Airport in Saudi Arabia - It is mutilated in front of their own eyes, at times the officers stamp on it with their feet.
Friend, I m not preaching any thing, but if Hindus can be accomodative to others, Y cant they be reciprocated by the other religion. My question is not only to U, bt also to the religious office bearers. Pl think and revert, pl

Everyone is hiding the truth. The last two stanza clearly praises devi durga, a hindu deity. Thus by forcing this on Indian muslims, they forced muslims to follow a hindu custom. Kind of forced conversion. Muslims do not belive or worship any other deity other than One and Only God. Infact its a pre-requisite to become muslim that they deny worshipping any one other that God
In response to ixlinhr--Why we are forced to praise someone whom we belive that she does not exists. Where is the choice. As this song is being declared national song, do we really have a choice to praise or not to praise? Do I have right to delcare my total disassociation to non-existant durga? How India is a secular country, this is nothing more than a rhtorics.

bow to mother earth in Sanskrit language means respect to their mother-land. it is nothing but the feeling of love towards their mother-land. no religious or other meaning in it. no confusion.
