the article on yahoo news says the US population is going to go over 300 million by mid october. It also says we are useing 25% of the worlds energy sources, but we only have 5% of the population, what do you think of this?
(it also says how we waste a lot)

I think we do as americans waste a lot of things, but I do see that things are starting to change. There are a lot more people concerned witht he envrionment then there were 10 years ago, evne 5 years ago.

Yes there are some countries that need to use more energy so they are not starving to death, but to think that we in america shouldn't worry about this is insane.

Yes.

I see alot of movement in the positive direction. One of the reasons may be that companies are starting to see that saving energy = saving money. Also doing things for the evironment helps their public image - its good advertising.

Go to another country and buy a coke or a pepsi. They don't have the 16 oz size. They don't even have 12oz as a size. They'll give you an 8 oz (237mL) can of soda. The portion sizes and many other things are much larger here. We also have more trash - more disposable utensils, more garbage. Here when we're full and can't eat any more we throw out food. Resourcefulness needs to be taught at an early age and be shown by example from the adults in order for change to really take place. I'd like to see how humans were to survive if you took away all their technology.. Oh wait, they have a reality show for that already!

It is true that Americans are more aware of the environment and of the conditions of other nations, but that still doesn't justify our huge energy consumption.

I really think stricter legislation needs to be passed still, to limit our energy usage. Why should we consume that much energy, when half of the world's population (3 billion and over) is surviving on BARELY two dollars a day, and are starving to death?

When you average in all the undeveloped countries in the world, it makes it look like we use too much, but have you considered that maybe they don't use enough?
