In the world of business does education and degrees really matter? I have an AAS degree in Business Mgmt and Information Systems Mgmt and haven't gotten very far. The position I have could have been gotten with out this degree. In fact, the person I replaced left to pursue an AAS degree! I don't feel the cost of this degree really paid off. Now I am going back to school to obtain a B.S. degree in Business Mgmt. Will I regret this decision as well? I am just very frustrated!

When I started university I was making $8.25 per hour. When I graduated with my B.A. in English I started making $18 per hour. Those are both full-time jobs. I'm now back in school pursing a B.Ed in Secondary Language Arts Education, and my starting salary for teaching high school (based on six years of university) will be $51,000. You tell me if that's a waste of time.

School is only a waste of time if you don't work for it and apply what you've earned. If you go to school and barely make the grades, business' notice. If you go to school and actually get something out of it career opportunities will arise. I only have an Associate of Arts and I have a great job. I've been in the Federal Government for three years and I have been promoted three times. Many schools offer job placement opportunities, which is how I got into the government. I started out as a student working the co-op program (which was temp employment) and was hired on full time. Final advice - Use what you have available and make them want you.

If it's important or not, is up for you to decide. HOnestly, we don't NEED degrees to get great positions, but in teh business work, they're picky, shallow and judgemental, and give you like 10 min to prove you are good for a job. So, having a degree, makes it that much faster adn easier for them to notice you should have some idea of what you're to do and that you know how to do it. But it doesn't guarantee a whole lot, it just helps.

School is never a waste of time. My husband does not have a degree, I have an Associates Degree. We are always, always behind on bills. We will probably never buy a vehicle that costs over $5000. We are constantly letting our kids down. They can't join boy/girl scouts, school clubs and so much more. They have to wear clothes from the Good Will. Almost all of my clothes have holes in them. I should have gone to college. Please continue your education. Good Luck!

An Associates degree doesn't usually help that much, a BS and an MBA or MIT does.

Education and the attainment knowledge are never a waste of time.

School is not a waste of time. You always learn as you go and sometimes things don't work out the way we plan or want but all we gotta do is keep on moving. Its a wise decision to go back to school from my P.O.V.
