I guess it only applies for US-based resident. It might be "postal code" else where in the world.

In the U.S., ZIP (short for Zone Improvement Plan) code is the location code used by the U.S. postal service to route mail. In other countries, similar codes are referred to as postal codes. A ZIP code consists of five digits; an extended ZIP code (also referred to as ZIP+4 code) consists of five digits, a dash and four more digits.

Area code is the first three digits of a 10-digit telephone number. The U.S., Canada, Mexico, and several Caribbean nations share a telephone system that requires no country codes for international calls between participating nations. Instead, you only specify a three-digit area code. Some of the more crowded locations (such as New York and Los Angeles) have several area codes. So to call from, say, New York to Chicago (area code 312), you will need to punch 1-312-XXX-XXXX; if you want to place a call to Montreal (area code 514), you'll dial 1-514-XXX-XXXX; a call to Cayman Islands (area code 345) will be dialed as 1-345-XXX-XXXX.
