You could be refering to the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives. It is a heirachy of six thinking levels. They are:
Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, analysis, Evaluation and Synthesis.
There are varying questions for learning throughout the different types of skills that improve personal cognition.
