Generally anything that is sexually symbolised i.e representing, penis, virginity, vargina, breats and so on.
There are things that explores a deeper level of sense like candles with scents.
There are things like chocolate that makes the body release the same chemicals through the person to make him/her feel pleasure as a person orgasms.
If you are thinking about something fetish, it is the idea behind it that someone is dominating (and no offense, an animalistic/natural/ravish and playful/new and esciting/manly behaviour).
Erotic photoes and pron needs no explaining.
If you are thinking about bondage or electric shocks it is the fact that the release of the tension gives an orgasmic feel to it.
In essence, anything that triggers the pituary gland (I think, but not sure) to release chemicals which are the same as those with sex; it is erotic.
(And not to spoil your evening, but it has to be mentioned) That's why when some people murder others find it sexualy arousing because the act makes their glands release the same chemicals as that when they are having sex.
The way these chemicals are released in the body is very individual so that's why people find various things erotic as opposed to others.

We associate things. For example if a person was aroused at 14 by seeing a topless girl, later in life breasts might be erotic. If a girl saw a man with an erection at 14 she might later find a bulge in a mans pants erotic.

Smells, touch, words and a quick peek of something you shouldn't see can set you off on the path of the erotic. Celibacy would happen to someone without these feelings and emotions.
