I have heard that some women get their period when they are pregnant but was wondering if it was the “real deal” or if it was questionable. If you did get your period during pregnancy, was it on time? Did you experience cramping and/or bloating? Did it last as long as your normal cycle? How did you finally find out you were pregnant? Thanks!

Many women have one period, then find out they are 6 weeks pregnant. It happened to me with all 3 of my pregnancies. The period was pretty normal. But if you know that you are pregnant and you start to bleed you should always go in and see your doctor to be safe. Some people have miscarriages and still births.. and them some just spot or bleed because of intercourse or even for no reason at all. So if you are planning to have a baby, are pregnant or think you are pregnant you should go see a doctor on a regular basis. I found out I was pregnant just by my body it acts different and you will notice that after your first, but if you think or are trying then keep taking tests and seeing your doctor. Good luck!

Period During Pregnancy

NO. Don't listen to all the other answers that say it is possible. These women all experienced either decidual bleeding or implantation bleeding. Having your period during pregnancy is impossible. If you conceive, your period that should come that month is not going to come because the egg implants in your uterus. So it makes no sense that your period would happen, because a period is the shedding of the endometrium, CONTAINING THE EGG. So no, you will NOT have a regular cycle, you will NOT ovulate, and you will NOT have your period. When you get your period, it is your body telling you that you are NOT pregnant, so why would your body tell you that you aren't when you know that you are? It is simply impossible and makes no sense at all. NO.

Women often have what is referred to as "implantation" bleeding. It isn't uncommon for this to occur for one to three months. The key thing is that if you have ANY concern about this to check with the doctor. I taught childbirth classes for a few years and knew quite a few who had light discharge the entire time. The main thing is to notice how one feels and how the discharge looks and smells (I know..icky..but it is important.) If the discharge changes (darker in color, heavier, malodorous) contact the doctor immediately. It could indicate a vaginal infection, an impending miscarriage or the presence of placenta previa (where the placenta is over the uterine opening) and this can be diagnosed only by your doctor and if present, needs his/her supervision.

The key thing is to find a doctor you can trust and feel comfortable with. This includes his staff, especially his assisting nurse who can also advise you as to what to watch for and usually has a bit more time to have a detailed chat with you and will be sure to let your doctor know your concerns. Also, there is no such thing as a silly or dumb question. If you want to know, then the question is legit so feel comfortable in asking...anything.

Re: finding out I was pregnant? I was sick as a seadog on an erupting volcano and the smell of bacon cooking would set off a run to the nearest bathroom. LOL.

Yes ... it's possible. I missed one period, I went to the doctor ... and my pregnancy test was positive. Around the time that my next period should have come, I had some cramping and a HUGE blood clot was passed. I took it to the doctor with me, to see if it was the baby. The doctor held it over the sink, while examining it and promptly dropped it ... and it slid down the drain!! The look of shock on our faces must have been really comical ... but then it turned into laughter ... I couldn't believe he did that!!

All in all, he had a good enough look at it, to come to the conclusion that it was not a fetus. I was told to go home and stay in bed for a few days. I bled/spotted for a few more days, then it stopped completely. I gave birth to a healthy 7 lb 11 oz baby boy 7 months later.

Yep, I had it the first two months. The first one was like a normal 5 day period. I don't think it is a real one though. For the first 3 months of my pregnancy, I felt like I was going to get my period any minute.
