Computers can be used for a variety of things. For example, you can:
Write a letter and keep in touch
Create your own CV
Plan your holiday
Do accounts
Go shopping
Research your family tree
Learn a new skill
Do your homework/college assignments
Visit the library
The advantages are endless regarding the ability to use this tool to speed production of everyday of mundane tasks. The Internet is another issue that is a mixed bag. The Internet has made our world a lot smaller, allowing us to communicate with each other great distances, meet new people, discover new places, learn new skills, market new products and services and share new ideas.
The Internet can be harmful if used improperly and has created new avenues for people to cause us grief. Many people now complain that their “privacy” once held dear is now compromised. Much information about people is now made public and shared between private and goverment organizations. For a small fee and a bit of information a person can obtain a huge amount of personal information on just about anyone. In the right hands this information can be helpful, but in the wrong hands can have severe detrimental effects.
Identity theft, fraud, stalking, child exploitation, data corruption, viruses plague us daily. We must educate ourselves against these hazards so that we do not fall victim to them. Computers and the Internet are harmless and benefit us all. It is only when “bad” people interface with them that they pose a threat.

Advantage: They're fast and efficient (to a degree). They are NEVER wrong, a computer is never wrong because the result is based on the user. The phrase "garbage in, garbage out" is a phrase that describes a computer, the computer will never give you false results based on the information it's given, only the information it's given (based on the user) will be false in order to give you an error.
Disadvantages: The biggest disadvantage of a computer is privacy issues, there are millons of other people online that, if they knew how to hack, could access your private information, and since there are millions, the probability of people knowing how to do it yields a large base of hackers.
As far as a computer goes, the technology of a computer is said to double in speed and be half in size every 18 months, it's even cutting down to lows of 6 or so months if you watch the market.
The security of a computer is becoming better, but humans are very faulty, the work they do is very easily exploited and thus the internet and other programs you use can be breached and your information can be stolen.

Computers
Advantages: Easy way to store important pictures, addresses and phone numbers, short stories and poems, music and other files that would leave a mess or easily misplaced. Much easier then a typewriter to create essays, reports and other school work and making sure everything is spelled correctly. If you make mistakes with a typewriter, many times that means you may have to retype the entire page over.
Disadvantages: Tend to sit behind a computer to play games.
Internet
Advantage: Easier to research than using a library, and get more information faster. Chat with people all over the world without running up a phone bill. Emails cost less than snail mail (postal, letter, etc). Send pictures to love ones without the additional cost of duplicate prints.
Disadvantages: Chat with people all over the world, loosing track of time and staying up too late.. Stay indoors more and sit on backside than getting outdoors and exercise and enjoying the day Online games that consumes hours of ones' day.
In many ways Computers and Internet are like TV, but can be worse since it is more interactive..
But, you have to decide and weigh which are the true advantages and disadvantages accordingly to your habits, or control thereof.
