Remember the day when a bachelors degree was prestigious and carried a lot of clout? During that same time period (1960's thru 1990's), many companies staffed their middle ranks with people holding associate degrees. Moving up in an organization was largely commensurate with seniority and one's command of technology and politics.
These days, a BA or a BS degree is often the minimum requirement, and is quickly becoming the status quo. The MBA degree is not far behind. With advanced degrees being offered by more institutions than ever before, and with more and more people getting advanced degrees, the MBA will someday likely become the status quo. Furthermore, I feel like having an MBA will be a requirement for eligibility for employment with many employers, and certainly a prerequisite for most management positions.
MBA's are becoming so plentiful, though, that employers are paying more attention to the granting institution, rather than the degree itself - for there's a vast number of MBAs out there, and many of them coming from diploma mills with soft credibility.
If you're thinking of getting an MBA, I applaud you. It will pay dividends, improve your marketability, and will likely increase your overall lifetime earnings - perhaps several times over.
Good luck!
