I watched part of an ep years ago, and still think about it. What's the name of the episode where Picard comes across a race of aliens who speak conceptually. They use English, but the thinking isn't linear. Picard ends up on the planet, and talks about Gilgamesh.

The alien Picard befriended in that episode was played by (the late, great) Paul Winfield, who also played Captain Clark Terrell in Star Trek The Wrath of Kahn.

the episode is called "Darmok":

Picard must find a way to communicate with the Tamarians who, he learns, speak entirely in metaphors from mythology. In an effort to bring them closer, the Tamarian Captain beams himself and Picard onto a planet inhabited by a dangerous beast.

I often think of that episode myself. Isn't it odd. The concepts of language and communication can vary so much. There is actually a tribe in Africa in modern times who still communicate very much this way. Everything is a metaphor. If you were absent from the tribe for an extended period of time you would miss some references when you returned. If you are interested in this concept you can look further into Philosophy of Language.

Some are more scholarly (read: snoozable) than others... but to each his own = )

Good Luck!

i became right into a extensive fan of TNG and that i think of it is how the writers/manufacturers needed his character to act. He became right into a stable guy the two bodily and intellectually yet did no longer coach his thoughts. i could agree that he's somewhat stiff and wasn't somebody i could carry out with yet he became right into a solid # 2 and could continuously be relied upon via the Captain in rocky circumstances. so a ways as having somebody else play that character i think of i could bypass with a somebody like, properly, i'm no longer able to think of of who became into of their overdue Nineteen Thirties while the coach first aired.
