My Carpet in my backroom of my apartment has gotten wet from rain and now there is mold growing on the carpet and I was wondering if there is any way I can kill it. And I was wonddering On how I could try the carpet out for its still wet from the last rain. I've told my landlord and she has not done anything. Its gotten so bad that I have stopped useing that room for I don't want my daughter to get sick from it. Any help would be great.

Regular bleach or hydrogen peroxide will also kill mold. Dilute the bleach 10:1 then spray on carpet. Make sure that the carpet is color safe before use. Vacuum the carpet as dry as possible with a wet/dry vac, then turn fans on it. If you live in a high humidity area, you may need a dehumidifier.

Since you are in an apartment the best bet might be to move.Barring that check some of your local garden centers for a product called Consan Triple Action Twenty. Do *NOT* use bleach on your carpet since it will remove the color and may damage the fibers. The best way to apply the Consan is to use a carpet shampoo machine, just fill the detergent cup with Consan instead of soap and shampoo normally. If you don't have access to a machine you can get a half gallon (or 2 litre if U.K.) pump-up sprayer and *mist* (i.e. don't soak it) the carpet as per the directions on the Consan label for disinfection. Your apartment will smell like a hospital for a few days but the mildew will be gone

I would get rid of the carpet.Mold spores are not healthy to breath. If there is a child living in the home I would suggest contacting the human services or health departments in your cummunity and they might make the landlord do something about it. Good Luck !

My advice is get rid of the carpet and treat the flooring before you put new carpet down.

However, I would storngly suggest replacing the flooring along with the carpet.

Tea Tree Oil kills mold

dilute several drops of it with water and spray it on the area. you could also scrub it in with a scrubber brush type thing. let it dry (put a fan blowing towards it?), or get a dehumidifyer for the room. Dehumidifiers work like magic to take the moisture out of a room.

Good luck!
