Simple little experiment: if you were to set up the apparatus to electrolyse sodium hydroxide, what will be:
1 - Formed at the positive electrode?
2 - Formed at the negative electrode?
3 - The resulting solution?

I know this question should be rather easy, it's just been a while since I've done much in the way of chemicals!

you are electrolysing water with NaOH present.
1. 2OH- -e- -> H2O + O. 2O. -> O2^
2. H+ + e- -> H. 2H. -> H2^
3. The resulting solution is more concentrated NaOH solution.
