Ah - the film you want is actually called "The thing from another world", it's the John Carpenter remake from 1982 that uses the abbreviated title of "The Thing".
It is available from Amazon

I just checked amazon.com, and that film is readily available. They list it under its complete title, "The Thing from Another World."

try www.moviesunlimited.com they carry many older films I know I have bought films from them in including "On Borrowed Time" not sure its date right now but very old.

can pick up a dvdcopy from amazon, approx. equivalent £4-5pounds.. depending on regions

vhs versions also on there for about equivalent to about £1.50..

you'll find it on ebay. the original is the best, but the kurt russell remake gave me what felt like macaroni in my pants...
