I personally liked that choice. Downey Jr. has shown consistently high acting ability if he can keep his person life in control. And actually some of his personal struggles could help him identify with Tony stark (who is an alcoholic).

I am really looking forward to this movie. Even more so now.

Robert Downey, addict, Tony Stark, addict. Sounds like stunt casting to get people talking. The thing is I agree Robert Downey Jr. can act so that's okay. By the way for the other answerer's, Stan Lee does not control Marvel, he is however a profit participant when they make movies ( being one of the creators of the character, he should be) . My guess is the special effects will be the star, so they could've got Martin Short for the lead and it wouldn't have hurt the box office.

Seems like a very, very strange casting choice to me. I think he brings depth to the character of Tony Stark, but the suspension of disbelief for the Iron Man persona will be tough... I just don't think Shell head is a character that lends himself to RDJ's greatest talents, which lie on the border between drama & comedy.

Great casting Marvel has done it again!!!!! who would know more about alcohol/substance abuse than Robert Downey jr? He is funny, he is a great actor, one question though is he gonna wear the mustache?

Bad choice i think, it should be Tom Cruise but due to their break up in company, i think the choice went to Robert. But dont understand why him? He is so "OLD" is Ironman that old? There are so many other choices.

I hate to hear that. Quite possibly, the coolest comic character there is - played by him. I'm surprised they didn't go all the way and pick Val Kilmer.

The people responsible for casting must be on drugs like he used to be.
