Seriously...thats like roid rage or something. No joke.
I work in athletics at a university, and we were discussing this and what the punishment should be. Seriously, the guy sounds like he needs to be in UFC or professional wrestling like WWF (or WWE its called now i think).
He could have seriously injured the other guy. I feel he should be given a hefty fine, make a public apology not only to the player, but to the fans that had to witness it, and then be placed on suspension for the remainder of the season.
I know football is more of a contact sport, and more hardcore than something like baseball or basketball, but behaviour like that cannot be tolerated.

Hockey is a fast-paced game (unlike football, which is pretty much played in spurts,or basketball), with players colliding. Fighting isn't the purpose of the game, but an element thereof. Emotions can run high, although I suppose that's true of any sport. While technically not "allowed"--players do incur at least a five-minute penalty and sometimes more--fighting is accepted in hockey as long as both participants are willing, and there are rules against another player joining the fracas. As for Mike Tyson, he honed his skills beating the snot out of someone who was likewise beating the snot out of him. Had he learned to skate and stick-handle, he might not have the same fearsome punch, although maybe he would have skills as an enforcer. You must have never seen a John Erskine fight.

I'm with the others - he should be fined and suspended, and the evidence of the foul should be given to the DA's office for possible prosecution.
Football is a violent sport, and I can forgive a lot that goes on during the heat of battle. But what Haynesworth did was nothing more than common assault, and he should be charged as such.

There is no excuse for common thuggery in the professional realm of sports. These athletes need to realize that they are a part of a billion-dollar industry and check their tempers and egos at the door. Not only should dude be fined, he should also get a vacation without pay.

Well he definitely should be suspended but I think he should have to do some sort of community service during the suspension in addition where he will be kept occupied and not idle where his bad temper can get him into more trouble like we have seen with so many other athletes.

His punishment should be suspended for the rest of this season, including not being paid for games he misses.
