i have raced for 30 years and have seen people push kids into racing even know they don't have natural talent, that's how these kids get killed, when parents try to live their dreams of racing thougth their kids regardless that they don't have the talent and have what it takes ,just the money and no brains!!!

I can understand why people want to put an age limit on auto racing but, that is like grouping everybody together no matter what their natural talent is. Some drivers are very young when they start to drive. It is a much smaller engine than the one that Kendall had but, that is how they learn. The people who have the natural talent have it in their "blood". No amount of training or even age can put people up to this level. Also, it seems to be that there is a family history of racing. They know from an extremely young age they are introduced into it. They are ( I am not sure how to put it) race wise. The people who are in these "extreme" sports would tell you the would rather die doing what they love (I know it is not a nice way to say it especially with somebody so young passing away). I heard a family friend of television say she would race till the day she died. He said she loved doing what she did and was aware of the dangers involved in it. He also said that she may have only lived 17 years but, she lived more than in those years than most people live in 90. I wish I could give you the exact quote but, I just managed to catch it on the television. Maturity depends on the person. I know a lot of 40 years olds that are more like 4 year olds. Each person is unique. If they are doing it on their own free will. Their family supports them (no matter what it is). Give it a shot. I am sure that after the invesigation there will be more safety measures and rule changes to try and stop this from happening agian. No offence to anybody else's opinion. This is mine. Have a great day. My prayers go out to the Herbert family.

Absolutely there should be an age limit, but make it in relation to the different types of racing, horsepower generated and the maximum speed of the car.
I would have no problem with a 16, 17 or 18-year old driving/racing a Formula Ford or Formula 2000 car, however, it seems to me that a 17-year-old would lack the experience to handle the type of car Kendall Herbert was driving at Cayuga on the weekend.

I think that most really good race drivers know from an early age. Look at Jeff Gordon for example, he was only about 5 when he began racing go-carts. But, because it is such a high risk, often deadly sport I do believe a person should be at least the age of consent, 18 in most states. Although I have a friend who raced the local tracks for years and at 16 his son also began racing, it was a great father son activity. The speeds are no where near those of the big leagues though.

apparently you dont know the situation at all, because you are jumping to conclusions. First off, I know the family and I know what happend first hand. She had many years of training and experience prior to getting into the jetcar. Second off they put her on a learning curve, do you honestly think someone would just say "hey jump in this car and go as fas as you can", thats just ignorance. Look at the entire issue, she was EJECTED from a Car going over 300 mph! It was an equipment failure, it had nothing to do with her driving ability as many many people that knew Kendall would come to my aid and agree. Lastly, your comment about being forced in the car by someone else is simply not true. Ken Herbert is a standup individual and would never EVER make his daughter do anything she wasnt willing and more than happy to do. Maybe in oher circumstances, but not this one my friend. Before you go posting things on the net why dont you do some research first bud.-

To race as a Professional Driver, there should be a Age Limit. There are many Development Series that allows younger drivers to gain experiance at driving similar cars to that of the Real thing. So, there should be no reason to push a kid to do something that they are not exactly ready to do and that they need to have the time to get a hang of what they need to do in different situations.

If you can pass the physical, medical, and licensing tests, you should be able to race. It doesn't matter if you are 17 or 70 if something goes wrong. There are 17 year olds with over 10 years of racing experience. How much do you need?

I agree, but I think that goes for everything that is high pressure including acting and modeling. I cringe everytime I see a child actor, I think about countless kids who started really young, and their lives have been messed up because of it. Like the Olson Twins. They did not even have a choice in the acting thing, they could barely talk when they started on Full House.
NASCAR Benched Kyle Busch from the Cup series until he was 18. He had a contract to start at 16, but they told him that he could not until he was 18.

I disagree with you. I think that there are alot of mature 17 year olds out there. If they are raised around racing then let them race. Wrecks are going to happen on and off the drag strip. My best friends son at age 16 lost his life while pulling out of a gas station and the other driver (55 year old man) didn't stop at a stop sign.

No, as long as there old enough and experienced enough to be there. These kids that are racing are just like any other sport, they start at a very young age it's there dream to become great.
