We are going to Vegas in 3 weeks and staying at Mandalay Bay. This is our first time there- we are young 40's. Please tell me what you think of MB and if you have only a few things to do there, besides gamble and eat- what would you do if you were in your 40's. (I'm sure a lot of the clubs are for younger kids).
Thank in advance.

Mandalay Bay is a fabulous place to stay. I tend to stay that end of the strip when I go there for business.

Their pool/beach area is fun.
I suggest you check out Aureole for dinner. Their 4-story wine tower with "wine-angels" is something so unique you shouldn't pass it up. Red Square is another great dining/drinking experience. They have a ice bar that serves up a variety of vodkas and martinis.

I tell people this all the time about Vegas - you aren't going to spend that much time in your room so might as well venture outside of your hotel. Luxor, NY NY and MGM Grand are within walking/monorail distance. I suggest walking over to MGM and catching the monorail down to Harrahs/Imperial Palace. This way you can see more of Vegas without your feet hurting.

Mandalay Bay is a wonderful resort. (There is the new addition, known as the HOTEL at Mandalay Bay)I actually hosted my 40th birthday party there in Rum Jungle !!(great restaurant and club)
The hotel is also host to House of Blues,so check the concert schedule. There is also an HUGE Events Center, which has big shows (Beyonce, Tiger Woods Foundation Jam, etc)There is a great beach on the hotel property and a full-service Spa.
Make arrangements to see at least one of the Cirque Du Soleil shows on the strip("O" show is wonderful) and don't forget to see the Fountains at Bellagio (free)
Do some serious shopping at the Fashion Show Mall or try to find some bargains down at Las Vegas Outlets (take a short cab ride from your hotel)
You can also take a tour to the Grand Canyon or over to Lake Mead
Good Luck and Enjoy !!!

I think that Mandalay Bay is a great jumping off point for you Las Vegas Experience. If you are looking for activities a show is definitely a good experience. I recommend O at Bellagio it is a beautiful Cirque de Soleil show. Going out shouldn't feel like a challenge people of all ages go to the nightclubs on the strip. What you should look into is what type of music nights are going on, I enjoyed Studio 54 at MGM. Take advantage and explore the other hotels. Take a gondola ride at the Venetian go and explore the Forum shops at Caesars Palace. Go to the museums at Bellagio and Venetian.

Mandalay Bay is the only place I will stay. Bit classier than the other resorts. Once they built The Hotel at Mandalay Bay that was it, it became home base.

Loads to do - fantastic shops in their mini mall that connects it to Luxor. Incredible spa (go to Mandalay's not The Hotel's - same treatments but The Hotel is more expensive). Best restaurants at Mandalay - Aureole, Shanghai Lily, Red Square - get the Key Lime Pie maritini, it's amazing! Also try Mix at the top of The Hotel - great food plus an amazing decor. Plus there is Boarder Grill and House of Blues if you 're looking for food that's still good but cheaper. If you can, go to the Foundation Room - fun bar plus amazing view of the strip. The bar at Mix is fun as well.

Then there is the amazing pool and wave pool...

As for shows, you have Mama Mia! and you can head over to Luxor for Blue Man Group.

If you're still not tired, you can taxi around to the other resorts to shop and see shows.

In addition to the other answers, the Mandalay Bay Group are very good with comps as well, if you're a player and use their card. I haven't paid for a room in one of their casinos for 5 years and I get offers constantly.

The rum jungle restaurant in the hotel for dinner, drinks and dancing. The lounge in the casino for live band music and dancing with no cover charge. The shark exhibit is for all ages too.

Totally agree with the previous answer and don't forget to check out the waterfalls in front. On hot days they are incredibly refreshing.
