first of all, nobody can tell for sure if such a thing exists in the first place.
nor has anyone any idea how it could possibly work.

therefor there is no knowing gow far it COULD reach IF it existed.

maybe you need eyesight.. maybe it works like radiation, with the signal lessening geometrically over distance...
maybe it does penetrate objects without hindrance, maybe not, maybe some materials can shield it.
perhaps different people are differently able, some producing a stronger signal than others, or some being capable of picking up weaker transmissions than others.
maybe this ability is fixed in your genes, maybe it can be learned and trained...
maybe there is no end to its reach.
maybe it does not exist at all.
