Dude you're SO GROSS!!!!! That has to be a joke question.
Tell you what? If it smells like poop then that can be a SERIOUS problem, it could be pathological. You must make certain that it's NOT poop so here's a free consultation from me.

Next time you're taking a CRAP, taste your belly button muck again and then compare it with a sample of your crap ( YES eat your crap too)... if they taste the same then you're in big trouble ( only way to heal this condition is to keep eating muck in belly button before it builds up). If they taste different then lucky you.

Enjoy yourself.

Oh also rub some in your eyes, heard it helps with visual defects.

I'm not sure if this is a serious question, but since I'm just one point away from the next level... ;)

The stuff in your belly button smells for the same reason that armpits smell and fat people are more prone to smell bad than skinny people. Bacteria love warm, cramped places, like armpits and folds of skin, and your belly button is one such place. When you have dead skin cells or whatever that stay there for a long time, the bacteria grow there and that's what makes it smell. There's really no solution other than to clean it out, if it bugs you.

There are other medical conditions that are not touched on in this, such as a rare condition where the umbilical cord was cut too close and never healed properly, which means you literally have an opening into your digestive system.

It likely is just an issue with buildup, which I personally would recommend white vinegar or tea tree oil over alcohol, because they are less harsh on your skin and are less likely to dry it out and leave you scratching it bloody and making things worse, but that's just my opinion.

Get a Q-tip and some alcohol and clean it out. We often miss the inside of the belly button when bathing.

That's right dig deep into the crevices of that ole belly button and give a good cleaning.

Next time you take a shower, do the following: put soap on your little finger (which one depends if you are right or left handed, use the one you feel more comfortable with), get it a little wet and put it inside your belly button. Be careful, you don't want to harm yourself.
If you do that every time you take a shower, your belly button will become odorless.

What you are experiencing is essentially the accumulation of rotting skins cells, debris and other matter stuck in the crevices of your belly button.

As others have posted, swab it out with alcohol and a q-tip, perhaps even using tweezers to remove the debris in the crevices. Once clean, make sure you wash it daily while you shower, just like you would any other body part.

Do you wash with soap? And after you get out of the shower use baby podwer. I wash 3 times a day and use baby podwer all the time.
