I keep a fruit bowl in my kitchen. Without removing the bowl, what would be the best way to eliminate gnats?

Clean your kitchen and make sure the fruit in your fruit bowl is fresh and not getting old (it attracts them).

Cover the fruit bowl with saran wrap.

You would be better off keeping the fruit in a fridge as they will last longer.

If you have fruit laying out you may want to consider refrigerating it. I know, the bananas will start to look all black and gross but the inside of the banana will be fine and your gnats will be gone!

They are probably Fruit Flies, so cover the fruit and spray them with Windex or a similar cleaner.

Buy one of those round, bowl-shaped wire mesh coverings for fruit bowls. That should keep them, and any other bugs, away.
