I heard a middle aged man saying others were jealous of him because he was a "free spirit". He didn't seem cool and wasn't really good looking.
Is being a free spirit a desirable thing, or just a crutch?

Are you a free spirit? YES Is being a free spirit a desirable thing, or just a crutch? crutches are what people use to try-N-justify their " cages ".myself desired to to be free _n_ found twas only me -stopping-me (from being free). in other words you 'cage' yourself and / or you 'free' yourself. freeing one's-self can be done in an instant ;or even over a lifetime. really it is just up to you.in my humble opinion.based on my actual experiences though ..

I would like to be more of a free spirit but it's not easy as I myself
am middle-aged. It is a desirable thing,I think.To me being a free
spirit would mean being unrestrained by most of society's conventions as well as the opinions of others. Most of us abide
by these unwritten rules whether we like to admit it or not.
As for a free spirit being a crutch-the opposite,I think. Free spirits
are the ones who are out there while others often point and laugh
at them. Maybe it's the more conventional of us who use popular
opinion as a crutch.

hello there , i am now living in the USA . people here is not free . they seem to be slaves of so many material things . people is always running and they never stop to take a breath .

i am as free as i can , stop and think sometimes . but nobody seems to do the same .

i truly believe that if everyone took a moment to relax and to be free we would not be in the situation in which we are today . so i guess being care free or free spirit it is a good thing although the excesses are always bad .

Yes spirit is always free, for it stays of its own free will in the cage of this body having 9 open doors.

I would consider "a free spirit" as someone who does not believe in rules or laws or social conventions and thinks that if they wish to do or say anything that only their comfort or happiness matters.
Selfish is another word I would consider interchangeable.
