Ok, lately there have been a lot of school shootings within the past month:
*the guy that opened fire on that college cafeteria in Canada
*the shooting at the Colorado school
*that shooting at Duquesne at the basketball players
*the shooting of a principal last wk in Wisconsin
*TODAY* a shooting at an Amish school in PA
*TODAY* two Las Vegas schools were in lockdown as police tried to find teen gunman seen with a gun...

What the hell is going on?
Has anyone else noticed this?

Check out the article today on MSNBC by Bill Dedman on the subject. It is an eye-opener.

I have two answers for this. The media focuses in on towns and areas that have a low crime rate and all of a sudden something like this happens and it could be the worst thing that happened in years. It stays in the news because people Tune In and are eaten up by that information. I've had friends that went to schools in Jersey City and Newark, NJ where there were stabbings, shootings, etc. every week that NEVER made the paper, or headline news.
Real answer to the question:
Desperation - when someone goes to that extent. Where they have to take a gun and grab kids and take hostages. They are indirectly calling out for help. The problem was no one heard their call until now. Some others will hear something like this on the news and follow suit and think they're not going to hurt anyone. There are books you can read that dwell into the minds of a criminal if you really want.

I was wondering the same thing...it gives me chills.

BTW the two LV schools are about 3 blocks from my sons school but yet they let him go to school w/o lockdown today?

I am so glad I am leaving this city at the end of the month, but that dream of safer city was crushed with the Amish school shooting.
=(

I hate to say it but... we have to make the punishment so horrible that no one would think to perpetrate the crime. For some twisted reason when a murderer or killer makes the news then goes to prison he/she is a celebrity. (I do know what I am talking about, I was a prison guard for a couple of years) This is what a school killer is looking for. Additionally he/she is on he news constantly also creating celebrity. For these "bullied" nobodies this the holy grail "I am known I am important" sadly they feel that they have to assassinate innocent people to get their fix.
The punishment for this kind of behavior should be on TV and a slow painful death. Tying them between 2 pillars and flogging them with a bull whip until the flesh is pulled from the body as it hangs dying in public view. Celebrity, they don't want to be famous crying and wailing for the public to see.
In the time that I was a guard the return rate after release was 60% for nonviolent offenders and almost 100% for the violent offenders.
These people are predators looking for a reason to injure or kill their prey. I have looked into these peoples eyes and you don't want them back on the street.

Schools treat children like animals now, you can't be yourself you aren't allowed to feel anything words carry just as much weight as actions so therefore you can't have an opinion, it's frustrating for me as a parent so I know the kids are angry as well. I would hurt someone too if I went to school in this day and age because they pick on the kids to much they tell the dumbest things once my son got suspended for finally hitting back the kid who had been bullying him and when I talked to the principal she pissed me off so bad that I was 2secs. from shocking her but another teacher saved her butt by yelling out my name and the kids feel the same way adults are dismissing the kids today so they hurt or kill someone for attention.

Someone who is crazy hears about the shooting, sees how much attention they are getting, and gets the idea.
These people are most likely loners, with no life, somewhat mentally ill, and probably want to leave the world with a bang, because they never had the attention they wanted.
That is their revenge.

Unfortunately, with the internet and rapid access to news of this type, the "logical" outcome will be copy-cat events.
