I study law in university and i'll graduate in 3 months from now. I like to become a judge, but in my country (Iran), women should not be a judge. we can only be a lawyer. even my teachers do not have any logical reason for my question, they only say," because our legal system is based on Islam".What's your idea?

Women are judges all around the world and are just as effective as men.

But you live in a country that abides by Islam which essentially disallows modernization of thought. My father often has cases in Iran and is consistantly frustrated by the inability to apply economic theory in Iran as he would anywhere else in the world. It's difficult to argue with "because the Koran said so" which I think defeats the purpose of a court system. Laws should and do evolve over time as society changes.

Come to the United States, and you'll be able to live out your dream. There are three or four women judges that even have their own television shows!

Personally, I don't think there should be a discrimination. Women are just as good and reliable as men. In the United States, both are given equal opportunities. (Granted, there may be some discrimination with women. But that's been around since the whole Garden of Eden incident... ;-D)

Oh, I hope you don't hate the United States or Americans. This message is from one.

I voted early in this fall's election. I voted for seven women judges and two men. I find women make excellent judges and have volunteered on the election campaigns of several women whose legal acumen and dedication to justice impressed me.

The oppression of women in monotheistic cultures shames and discredits their faith. It is particularly unfortunate to see such primitivism in a nation with so proud a heritage as Iran. I am sorry the accident of birth in a Moslem country has limited your future so unfairly.

Come to the west any way you can. A person's gender is no basis upon which to deny someone opportunity. It is medieval, unjust and wrong, and women should not waste their lives with or bear the children of their oppressors.

There is no logical answer.

Women are exactly as capable of this job function as men are.

The answer is "because your legal system is based on Islam", which I find to be highly unfortunate. I won't get into the philosophical discussion at this point, as that is a different question.

There's no reason besides religious and societal beliefs which can excuse women not being allowed to become judges. Women can make impartial decisions just as well as men can, and in some cases a woman could better separate her personal beliefs from the case at hand.

In the USA we have female judges. It's because we are not under the tyrrany of Islamic rule. You should seek a non Muslim country if you want to be treated like a human being.

I think women, like men, should do any job they want to if they are qualified.

I don't want to criticize your country's customs but I agree with you.
