I think there are times when the attitde of the sender is that they feel they have to send cards- like for Christmas- I used to send about 100 cards and maybe got 30- 40 responses. I felt like I was wrong if I did not send them. I feel there is an important place for the greeting card. I no longer send them on obligatory holidays but I think about when they mean the most to me.
When my friends and family who live far off send a card for my birthday, it makes me feel blessed because they thought of me and though they do not see me often, it meant enough to them to send it. I appreciate the most, getting cards on "no occassion" just someone letting me know they are thinking of me and want to know that I am doing well. I personally enjoy sending the unexpected card just to say hello. I like to leave cards or notes for those that have done something special or blessed me in a certain way when they might not even realize that they did.
There is a time when a greeting card can be a burden and a chore , but it is especially sweet when it is unexpected and comes as a simple act of love

I am a little unusual regarding greeting cards, so my answer probably will help you: I never read the words & only care about the pictures. Reason being, I think ALL greeting cards say the dumbest, lamest sappy verses inside that some dorks were paid to write. I love looking at pretty pictures & prefer to select my cards from how much I like the pictures. My favorites are animals (kitties, bunnies, etc.) because I think they are cute. I also totally prefer funny, lighthearted cards than sappy drivel. My very favorite cards are ones that have pictures of animals doing funny things (like a cat sticking their paw in a fishbowl, etc.) Hope this helps!

Well, it makes you feel like someone cares it may just be a small piece of paper but it can be very speacial. for example a was very sad one time and i talked to my teacher about it and the next day she gave me a card and some starburst it meant a lot that she would take the time to write me something i still have that card and when am down i just read it and know there is someone who cares

I enjoyed receiving and giving greeting cards while serving in the military and stationed away from home. They are fun and sentimental and usually don’t carry bad news. I always immediately got happy when I received an over sized envelope because I knew it was a greeting card from my family, friends or sweetheart.

You want my opinion? Personally I think its a waste of material. Cards for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and well wishers are all good. But greeting cards are kind of a waste. I think it is a lazy way of greeting someone.

How do they affect me as a person? How else could they affect me if not as a person? They are surrogate expressions chosen by the sender for the thought or image. They are a substitute communication taking the place of one-on-one intercourse.

1. I purchase them and send them to people.
2. I enjoy selecting them and having them
3. When i send them i enjoy the theme or picture and i enjoy how it relates to the person to whom i'm sending the card
4. When i receive a card, i know the person who sent it spent some time thinking about me and went to the effort to send the card, so i know they value me.
