Can anyone point me to a good free font website (looking for an old typewriter font), and explain how to install it so I can use it on MS Word?

Go to this url: http://www.fonts.com/findfonts/mondosearchresults.htm?kid=typewriter&st=12&ovmkt=JK0U0JDQ41GISCA7JS1RID2DCS
Download the font it’s free, unless you plan on using it for a business then most font authors want a small fee. After you download it check to see if it needs to be unziped, and do it if you have to. Copy the file then go to My Computer > C: > C:Windows:fonts
and paste the file there. Windows will automatically install the font making it usable by all your Windows based programs including MS Word.

You want only TFF files or similar files (some might be .FON files). You can read and then delete the .TXT files. They are short files with some information from the author. After you install the font go to MS Word and check out what characters it has. Some only have capitol letters, others may only have the letters and numbers, only a few are complete. Font files are tiny so you can collect a lot of them. Windows will only load the fonts you are using so you can build up a huge number of them in the fonts directory without slowing down your computer. It is best to store the original files in another location in case if you have a Windows crash or you need to reinstall Windows.

You can find to more examples at this site: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=typewriter%20font&tag=srch

If you want more fonts then go to the Yahoo Search bar and type in the word “fonts” and hit the search button. You can also type in “typewriter and fonts” or a similar phrase to get the fonts you want.

If you're using a PC (or even if you're using a mac) you can download many free fonts from sites like:

http://www.dafont.com
http://betterfonts.com

On PC these are usualy true type fonts (end with TTF) and you install them by putting them in your fonts folder in the windows folder.

For more on micrsoft fonts check out..

Go to http://www.1001freefonts.com/ - they have fonts available for free download. If you click the letter that your font begins with, e.g. T for Tahoma, you will then go to a page with all the fonts beginning with T on.

Click the 'Win Font' button under the font name, and save the .zip file in a temporary location on your system. Extract the .ttf file from the zip file, and place the .ttf file in C:\Windows\Fonts

That font will now work for all your windows applications, not just MS Word.

Hours of fun!

Try here, although I've not used the website (but it got a "green light" from McAfee's Site Advisor!)
