Your country needs to stop selling guns. I live in Ireland where shootings are rare because there isn't a gun shop on every corner. Infact it's really hard to get a gun here. But now it's beginning to get easier and shootings are happening a little more. It's so scary.

i'm only nineteen and I never understand it (considering at my high school it seemed like they issued glocks.)

There are two things that can be done, give schools police security that are allowed to carry weapons, out in the open even. It is a deterent, it says "If you won't be talked down we do have the availability of lethal force if nescessary." It also does come to that sometimes. MAnytimes the people that do this are beyond help at that point. If anythign it can and probably will curve the casualty rate. The only other thing is for parents to really pay attention to thier children. honestly, a person can't go on a colombine type shooting using heckler and koch sub machine guns along with whatever arsenal they can carry if parents know what thier children are doing. I'm not saying blame the parents, but at the same time there have to be clues to something like this that has been planed. Beyond that none of the laws regulations and other red tape given to schools have made them safer. Unfortenately many are just feel good laws that make the public feel better about themselves. My ideas if anything will slow somethign down while we as a nation learn a better way. I'm not saying Martial law, I'm just sayign give the school something to defend itself against someone who won't be talked down. Shooting a gunman is always the last effort, but if you give tose on scene the power to do so, it will help due to the given response time of even the best law enforcement units...

I completely agree with Big Ed! I was just trying to explain this theory to my husband last night. I firmly believe that the media is to blame for sensationalizing and "glorifying" these gunmen. And to the Canadian...I have always thought you folks had the right idea... from politics to healthcare. Something to ponder: The United States is the adolescence of the world. We are only 200+ years old compared to countries in Europe and Asia whom are 1000+ years old. We are bullies of the world because we are naive and think we know everything... just like teenagers. If we would let the wisdom of our elders lead us instead of our greed, we would have a much better world to live. These shootings are tragic and unjust, I am considering home schooling my children for this reason. I realize you can not shelter them forever but I can do my part as a parent to protect them the best I know how. If I think it can't happen in small town Illinois, I am being naive. It happend in tranquil Amish country in PA... Complete tragedy... and my heart bleeds for all those families in the last week. THE MEDIA HAS GOT TO STOP THE MAYHEM!!!!

Simple, stop glorifying it.

Everyone thinks the problem is guns but that is simply not true. Canadians have more guns per capita than the US does but when is the last time you heard of a Canadian shooting up their school? Our media is no longer news, it's simply sensationalism and the reason it's that way is because that's what we want. Take the Scott Peterson or Jon Benet Ramsey cases and the ungodly media attention they get as all the proof you need. Wanna become a celebrity, go shoot someone. Want to go completely unnoticed, save someone's life.

It's not guns, it's not video games, it's our so called news programs making celebrities out of psychopaths. Put a stop to that and you'll stop a lot of the rampant violence.

I remember having a slight fear that our school would end up having a school shooting ever since the school shootings we've had at Columbine and I was getting to the point to where I couldn't wait to graduate from high school, our school now has over 2,000 students.

I feel bad for today's children who has to live in fear cause of the school shootings and I can see why there are police officers at the school.

Easy, arm every single kids in school with hand guns. U.S. and Russia, and many major countries play the game of "mutual deterrence," so why not let our kids play it as well.

Furthermore, you are not going to see the issues of bullying anymore.

Just let kids shoot each other out over dispute, forget about gun control, US is a country ruled by conservatives-gun control is not going to happen.

Letting kids shoot each other out has the beauty of weeding out bad apples. We already have so much violence in TV now days. Just turn on the TV to every single channel during prime time, I'll guarantee you to see gores and corpses every hour. So how is a shooting, or two, or fifty, a big deal.

I hate to say it but... we have to make the punishment so horible that noone would think to prepetrate the crime. For some twisted reason when a murderer or killer makes the news then goes to prison he/she is a celebrity. (I do know what I am talking about, I was a prison guard for a couple of years) This is what a school killer is looking for. Additionally he/she is on he news constantly also creating celebrity. For these "bullied" nobodies this the holy grail "I am known I am important" sadly they feel that they have to assinate innocent people to get their fix.
The punishment for this kind of behavior should be on TV and a slow painful death. Tying them between 2 pillars and flogging them with a bull whip until the flesh is pulled from the body as it hangs dying in public view. Celebrity, they don't want to be famous crying and wailing for the public to see.
In the time that I was a guard the return rate after release was 60% for nonviolent offenders and almost 100% for the violent offenders.
These people are predators looking for a reason to injure or kill their prey. I have looked into these peoples eyes and you don't want them back on the street.

The bad guys prefer unarmed victims!!.
When seconds matter calling 911 and asking the bad guy to wait is not a viable option.

Better to have a gun and not need it than to need it and not have it!!!
**Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens.**

So you are against the private ownerships of gun! Do you believe in fire extinguishers? Why, you can always call the fire department!!

The only violence from my school days were the occasional fight breaking out. I think it would be prudent to install metal detectors at every doorway or entrance to school. No one should enter schools until they've been checked by a staff that is diligent and not lazy. That is what this country has come to. A shame.

Well we can ban guns! Though many would freak because it is our constitutional right to bear arms. Unfortunately I think it is something we are going to have to live with. It is sad to see that people who live a lifestyle that do not beleive in the the advances of today (Amish) get a dose of reality from urban life.
