It is German reunification day, the day that the formers East and West Germany reunited to become one country again. The 1st reunification day was Oct. 3, 1990.

It's a holiday, today. It's because of the reunification of the eastern and western part of Germany on October 3, 1990. This day became the national holiday.

It's a bank Holiday,Germany has more Bank Holidays than any other European country.Reunification day is the latest celebrating the reunion of East and West Germany as one country on 3/19/90.

it might be because of yom kippur (jewish holy day) but it's usually celebrated today.
