A radio reporter, Brian Mann says the Democrats shoul start respecting "rural folk and the vitality of their culture" or the votes and support will keep declining.

What do you think of this? Should Democrats try to win over or at least play nice with the rural conservatives?

Actually, Democrats are kicking butt with rural conservatives this year. In Kansas, NINE former Republicans - including the former Chair of the Kansas Republican Party - are running for offices as DEMOCRATS. Further, Dems are poised to take the Senate seat in Montana and the governorship of Colorado - and there's lots more news that would drive Brian Mann mad, if he actually bothered to do research instead of spouting from his rear-end.

Mastermind"
No... they don't have enough common sense to win over rural conservatives.
^Like what???

The Democratic Party always was and always will be a party that looks out for working class people.

The problem here is related to mastermind's answer.Karl Rove
and company have created a low-income Right that votes only anti-gay and and anti-choice,AGAINST their own interests.
We respect ALL American culture. It is the Republicans who need to stop pandering dishonestly to base groups.

Dems need to pick their message and direction and stick with it. They also need to recraft what the stand for in terms of things that appeal/benefit all sorts of people-- not just the left. There are many things that cons can buy into as well.

People strong in their convition on sensitive items like abortion or capital punishment are not easily swayed-- so get off that topic.

No, that is a repuglican thing to pander to special interest groups, the democratic side is to present what we stand for and to hope that more people agree then disagree. The repuke's have tarnished this and continue with a barrage of false accusations in all of their political activity's and that is something that needs to be addressed. I am not a baby killing, atheist, homosexual, I do not want to take away your gun or guns, and yet somebody will say that in almost every question that I ask. Or in many questions that the repuglicans ask.

edit: mastermind is a good example of what I am talking about.

Maybe if conservatives (and I imagine the rural cons are part of this) didn't constantly call liberals "commies" or constantly accuse them of hating America, we'd have something to talk about.

Its a two-way street. Cons have to learn how to play nice, too.

I don't really know a lot about this particular issue, but it would be in there best interest if they did. but they should not change there position. but respect others. Your not going to win everyone over. but you should not piss them off either.

They should stop regarding rural conservatives with contempt and arrogance...the USA is not simply California and the New England states.

You are never going to get rural conservatives to vote for a party who doesn't want to kill convicted murders but will allow unborn babies to be killed.
