Is is wise for a woman younger than 35 to get a mammogram if the two generations before her were both diagnosed with breast cancer? If so, how early should she start to take precautions with the mammograms? Is 30 too soon?

You definitely need what's called a base line mammogram at 35. That's one that all the sudbequent mamms will be compared with; especially considering the medical history. 30 maybe too soon for mammogram, but not too soon for diligent self exams and an annual ultrasound. If the doctor feels ther family history is strong they may even start the mamms at 30, but I doubt it.

i had my first mammogram at 18 and i'm 34 now and so far so good my next one is in january 07 we'll have to see how that goes,my breast cancer background is the same as yours that's why it's important to start testing at 18,my mom was diagnosed at 32 with breast cancer and she passes away at early 35 she probably would have beat it if she got checked reguarly.

No way. If you have a family history of breast cancer, it is NEVER too early to get a mammogram.

I don't think it could hurt (well actually it will hurt lol) to have a mammogram at age 30. Especially if it runs in your family. Let your gyno know your concerns and just make sure you are doing self exams at home.

I am 40 so I have to have one every year. You need to talk to your doctor about the generation of breast cancer and work out a plan for what to do. I know that 7 days after your period you are suppose to check your breast for any thing abnormal.

i once read in a medical journal that a woman with a strong family history of breast cancer should have her first mammo 10 years prior to the age her mother, aunt, grandmother was diagnosed with it. this means if your mother was diagnosed at age 40 with breast cancer, you should have your first mammo at age thirty. hope this helps.:)
