With your ex husband being in jail he doesn't have the money to pay into child support that's probably why you don't qualify, I'm sorry to hear that I will ask around and if I get anything maybe you can leave me a way to contact you. Maybe an email address or something. I hope it works out.

Well you can't get child support because the father is earning no income, but perhaps you qualify for welfare of some sort. Have you looked into that yet?
By the way, YOU didn't cheat your children. You are raising them and working as hard as you can. The father who thought his criminal ways were more important than being a good father cheated your children. I hope you find a DECENT man that can be a substitute father for the children at some point in the future. In the mean time, just make your kids your #1 priority.

I can feel your pain. My ex husband is in prison and has been for four years, our children were still in diapers when he went away. I get c.s. on my two older children and because of that I have not been "eligible" for any help on the two little ones. It is not fair at all, be sure to have him sign the children up for the Prison Angel Tree though. It's a nationwide Christmas program, that will go out and buy your children a few gifts and send them to your home. It is so the children can have something from their Dad. Mine are young so they think it's from Santa. It's not much and won't help with bills, but it is at least something. Take Care.

Actually, if he is in prison, his rate of pay is so low, you would not even want it...but unfortunately it is not possible to collect. BUT you could qualify for state assistance for cash food and medical due to his incarceration. You may also be qualified to apply for Social Security benefits.
I have a cousin that her ex is in prison. She has applied for all these benefits. State benefits will help the most due to the fact that the state will monitor his non-payment and then collect from him when he is released, sells any real property, etc., They can also suspend his license, and place liens on any/all property he has like car home, etc. You should check with them..If you have a court order for support, you should have no problems!

actually i am going through a similar thing. My husband when caught will be in prison for the rest of his life becasue of the three strike law. Now we have a son toghter and i was asking abuot child support. I was informed from the social services office that once he is in prison the state takes over his child support and i would collect social security for my child but i need a court order first. Look into it.

There are a lot of avenues for you to find help in. I think it's because he has no income for you to attach. In California you would qualify for the healthy childrens program, to provide your children with healthcare benefits. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with NC though. I hope things improve for you. I'm a divorced, working mom of 2 as well. I know it's tough. Sometimes I find I make just enough to keep me from receiving help. Best wishes to you.

The first part of your question answers itself...how can you get child support from someone in prision...if he has no income in prison you can't get support. It's unfortunate, but you are on your own without any support from the state. Don't feel like you have cheated your children, explain to them that mommy is doing all she can to make sure they are happy.

i feel for you but the answer is a no brainer. hello you cant get blood from a turnip. he's not working sweetie he's doing time! so you wont get child support from him. however as for assistance you may be making too much money. maybe cut back on your hours. i know that sounds stupid but you didnt make it clear as to why you were denied assistance from the govt.. what i suggest is you vote democrat the next election and watch the new leaders take care of us single moms instead of the iraqis. other than that i feel your pain. good luck!
