this is in addition to my question about my godsisters soon to be in-laws, the guy she's marrying has a daughter by some other girl who is black 100%, the daughter has a very very light complexion, typical of mixed children but she has the nappiest hair i've ever seen & his mother forbids him or anyone else from telling her that her mother is black thus making her half black, she actually tells this little girl she's white and better than her friends at school who are black, mexican, chinese, etc.. all of this came up in a discussion over hair do's and salons for the wedding, my godsister suggested taking the girl to a black hair salon because she HAS BLACK HAIR & the white salon we took her too almost laughed us out the door. His mom went balistic, "she's not black she's not black she's white"! & looking at her you can clearly see she's not a white girl, she's just a light complected black girl. I just wonder what will happen to this girls state of mind when she finds out the truth?

This child will grow up suicidal. A girl I know who was raised this way ended up sleeping with 460 men before she was 20 and got AIDS. Girls like this get confused. It's okay to tell a mixed child she is Black because Black culture is not cruel racially. But to tell a mixed child she is White will make her suicidal, studies prove it. Oh by the way, interracial adoption should be outlawed. Tom Cruise the nutbag and Madonna the whore is a good reason to start with.

Granny is making a big mistake
the girl will find out and she will end up feeling ashamed, like she has to hide something about herself when she gets older.
i'm not biracial, but i thought biracial people are proud of their diveristy, as it should be. Plus, making it a point to tell a child she is better than others because she is white or black or any race is just messed up. This old lady will regret the damage she is doing and Mr. Dad better grow some huevos and start the parenting and teaching of values.

The problem is the girls parents not her grandmother. They need to set this child straight before she finds out when some racist calls her out of her name. The grand mom sounds like a racist. This same thing happened with my sis in law. Her mom has 4 kids by black men and swears they are all white even though they are dark. When her youngest was 6 my nephew called her black and she cried saying she was not black. I took it upon myself and told her she was black and white and that meant she had the best of both worlds. She is 13 now and cool with both sides of her heritage. Her mom is still in denial even when I have to put a relaxer in her child's hair.

It wont do anything. Sooner or later the girl is going to find out she is partially black. I mean if she looks chocolate, she will know. She will probably hate her parents for not telling her and therefore, you should say something to the child. The child needs to know the truth no matter what. Make sure the parent is in the same room when you tell the child though.

denying someone thier herritage at any age is just plain
awful, that poor little girl is going to grow bigoted towards her own
race. she should be able to celebrate being both black and white
i knew some girl at an old job of mine and her daughter was
black. white and spainish, and the mother who was mixed black and white, always told people she was 100% black and would outright deny having any caucasion in her---ive met her mom, and she's white hmmmm, anyhoo her daughter was told by her
over and over that she is black and refuses to cdelebrate being
white or spainish. very very sad.

Sounds like a really healthy enviroment someone should just tell the poor girl and explain to her there isn't anything to be ashamed of or to worry about. Why doesn't her real mom have anything to do with her?

Well, sounds like she is neither black nor white. they call that a mulatto.

And it also sounds like she is going to go crazy at about 17 and end up killing herself or someone else cause of all the wonderful people around her.
