After learning that the Aztecs and Mayans had detailed creation stories, I decided to collect these and figure out which one is best.

I'm a little tired of the Genesis story, since animals and the earth get disrespected and exploited and women are put down as troublemakers. I figure we need some new ones, really good stories that are, well, CREATIVE.

Go ahead, think outside the box! Your story should:

1) Explain how the Earth got here.

2) Figure out how water, rocks, animals, and people came to be.

3) Give us a reason to 'be' and hope for the future.

Feel free to 'plug in' to evolution or science at any point, it doesn't have to be a DUMB creation story!

Best one gets the 10 points!

1)It all started about 13 billion years ago, with a tiny singularity. This singularity expanded and unraveled into all the dimensions of spacetime and released massive quantities of matter and energy. After a while, when space had expanded enough, the matter started to clump together and fuse, becoming stars. These stars burned for many thousands of millenia and when their fuel was exhausted- they exploded, sending out huge clouds of matter. When this matter reached other stars, it stared to orbit them and built up into planets and asteroids.

2)Then, about 4 billion years ago, on one planet LIFE evolved. This primordial replicator was very adaptable, and before long it had diverged into many wondrous forms. Arguably the most wondrous of these is the human. We, as a species, arrived on the scene only about 200 thousand years ago.

3)We seem to be uniquely gifted in that we are the only species on the planet capable of understanding our own origins. This sets upon us the onerous task of... well, understanding our origins. We are closer to understanding the universe now than anyone in the past 200 millenia has ever been. What we need is for people to stop looking backwards to the comfort of old myths and discredited science and to look forward to a brighter, more enlightened future.

This is really all about you, isn't it? Perhaps in your fantasy, you can be the orb of light and can divide like an amoeba in order to create "thingamabobus erectus" in your own image. Since this will be your fantasy then you need to fill in the remaining blanks.

My favorite is the one where God was alone in the universe, and said the words "I am", after which immediately felt fear, the fear of loneliness, so It split into two. That is the breaking into the world of light and the pairs of opposites. From one came two, from two came three, and from three came many. This suggests we are all little fragments of "God", and why (for most of us) our biggest fear is being alone in the world.
