It sounds to me like you need to read the book. It's a great book by the way. I know the answers but if I did it for you then what would you be gaining? Give it a read, you'll really enjoy it!

Ponyboy's parents died when he was younger, leaving Darry to raise him and brother Sodapop.
He feels he is too much of a bother and an extra expense for Darry.
He is different because he is afraid and more emotionally sensitive than the others.
The character Cherry is important because she wants the same thing Ponyboy wants..... no more "rumbles" between the socs and the greasers.

I hope that helped. NOW GO READ THE BOOK! There is also a movie out based on that book. Read the book then watch the movie and u will understand more.

You haven't read the book, have you?
Ponyboy says he does not participate in typical greaser mischief because his oldest brother, Darrell (“Darry”), would kill him if he got into trouble. Ponyboy not as a tough street youth but as a boy who likes to read and watch sunsets.
Ponyboy’s parents died in a car crash, so the three brothers live together by themselves, an arrangement possible only as long as they stay out of trouble. Twenty-year-old Darry acts as head of the family. He is strict with Ponyboy and often yells at him. Despite his intelligence, Ponyboy lacks common sense, which frustrates Darry.
Cherry is a sympathetic, warm girl. The conversation between Cherry and Ponyboy exemplifies the rare civil negotiation that would alleviate the tensions between the Socs and greasers far more than violent conflict.

I assume these are Homework questions. If you read the book you could answer all of these. I haven't read the book since 7th grade ( lets see that would be 25 years ago) and I could answer most of these questions. S E Hinton is a great author. Try doing your HW on your own and learn something.

It really is a good book, like the first answerer said!! However, if you just can't make yourself read the book, there is also a movie available.
