Democrats actually believe (rightly) that religion is a private matter and that religion and politics should not be comingled, whereas Republicans have crossed over into theocracy. Makes it tough for Dems.

I think it all depends on how you look at it, such as framing what constitutes "moral values." There are some Democrats who believe they have ignored the religious constiuents, unlike the Republicans, (not the Rockefeller Republicans of old) who have embraced several Christian denomiations. I believe theterms now being used are progressive, moderate and/or liberal (not to be confused with political ideoligies, but rather along the lines of of dogma and/or spiritual philosophies) Christians. Everything isn't black or white. For example, most people think Republican and Conservative go hand-in-hand just as Democrats and Liberals do. This is not exactly the case. Look at the Log Cabin Republicans, a national gay and lesbian Republican grassroots organization that some would say vote against their own best interests. Another example would be Barry Goldwater, who is often credited for sparking the resurgence of the American conservative political movement. However, if compared and contratsed to today's conservatives, his views would be leaning quite a bit to the "left of center" catergory. Another view would be that of Reverend Barry W. Lynn, the Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State since 1992. He is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and a prominent leader of the American religious left. If you look around, you'll see that both political parties do aknowledge Christisnlity, just from a different point of view with the hopes of reaching and connecting with a demographical population that often feels they go unheard. For many years past, Catholics and Democrats were almost synonomous. Take a look around and I'm sure you'll find a church with political leanings that are favorable towards what you seek, though personally, I believe that governments should, generaly, remain neutral in reagards to religious matters, and vice-versa.

Why do I bother? Okay, here goes...
This is NOT a theocracy. It is a democratic-republic (ruled by mere mortals).
The Constitution gives Christians some basis for their freedom of religion. The Republican party currently represents the moral issues most Christians subscribe to, and which support comes from the Constitution itself.
When the DNC comes up with a plan that fights for something other than moral decay, you will see the Christians more evenly split between the parties, as they have been historically.

Good question.
Personally, I think Republicans are trying to sabotage Christianity by proclaiming the faith but acting like jackasses.

It's because to win as a Democrat you have to represent the kook fringe that paid to get you into candidacy( G.Soros) which are atheists so you have to denounce Christianity and religion.

They aren't smart enough to do anything on their own and Dean, Gore, and Susan Sarandon haven't told them what to think about the subject yet.
