It's not illegal on some streets. They are very impractical (and illegal) for interstate travel.

The law says that you can ride an electric vehicle on the pavement up to 4mph, 4-8 mph on the road with lights and indicators, over 8mph needs a licence.

If your in the UK yes it is illegal, to ride them anywhere other than on private property. The Police will confiscate them, they have done over the summer where I live. Disabled scooters are a different matter.

You have to check with your local authorities. Some places treat them like bicycles, so you have to ride on the street. If they go above a certain speed, you may have to have a helmet and motorcycle permit, and a license for it.
It's a local thing.

No, it isn't here (D). However all scooters should be illegal and riding them should be a kind of punishment for committing serious crimes instead of a long prison sentence.

Check with the local municipality.
For instance in the recent past it was legal here, then a law was passed & now it is not.

Ride safely!

In most states now, it is illegal to put them on any public road or even sidewalk. Check out your local municipality.
