catholics offer wreaths, flowers, candles, prayers from the start of the wake until the burial of the deceased. mass cards are just one form of tangible offering; essentially, those cards are bought for the specific purpose of offering a Mass for the soul of the deceased. and as explained by a previous respondent, a Mass is actually celebrated wherein an "intention" is to pray for the eternal repose of the decedent's soul.

Many cards left for those who have passed are simply sympathy cards for their loved ones. The majority are what you referred to as "Mass" cards. These are cards in which someone has requested a priest at a specific church to mention the deceased persons name while the church patrons are praying. Its like they dedicate a mass to that person. Wherein everyone can pray for his/her soul. If you've attended a Cathoilic Mass you may remember hearing a priest say "for so and so" and then the patrons reply with Let Us Pray.

Ever considering that I used to be little I do not forget listening to and as a rule looking in films, that folks who dedicated suicide had been NOT buried in sacred floor. (It's supposedly precise) Reason I ask is for the reason that we are simply studying on-line now that a popular Florida flesh presser/ ex-Congressman whose household could be very influential has had the tragedy of a son committing suicide the day past. The household is Catholic. So is mass stated for the younger guy? (He should not however but you stated influential so wait it out and notice how influential? $$) But the real God might be saddened on the loss. Life is the revel in.
