Check on cnn.com, this time in an Amish school in Pennsylvania!
As a society, what can we do about all this? It is getting so out of hand.

All of these answers are quite good. What gets me about this Amish school is that I thought the Amish did not watch tv's or listen to radios. I may be wrong, I just find it sad that this is even happening with their culture. I also thought they were opposed to guns.

what is going on in your opinion? Is it video games, divorced parents, too busy of parents, schools, music, television, the media, etc.??? I am a concerned parent with a 12, 10, and 4 year old. We don't shelter our kids, but we are very strict in what they can view and do. We let them have fun, but not keeping up with the norm. We take the time with them because for me and my husband, our children are our lives. I am just not understanding why all this is happening, why now?

I agree with all of you. Everyone's answer was quite good and I don't know which one to pick! I do agree that we shouldn't ban guns, schools need more security, and parents need to communicate/raise their children.

My son just started school this year and in his class they do drills for this kind of thing. I live in a crime free city, no murders for 13 years in a city with a 100,000 population. its a pretty wealthy town. The school is "state of the art" and has bulletproof doors and walls in all the classrooms. its school policy to have the doors to the classrooms shut and locked at all times. and the lunch room is done in shifts. while school is in session and lunch is in progress they have 2 gaurds at every door for saftey. These gaurds are armed and most are former police and military, one is former secret service. I would feel more safe there than in the presidents living room. this is the key to safety. a small army couldn't pull off a shooting at my kids school, let alone some fag with a pistol. I asked my son if he felt restricted and he said "no, I feel safe at school" pretty smart of a six year old.
ad to all the retards who are saying "ban guns" get a clue. if you banned guns in america, you would have some people with them called "criminals" and I would have no option to defend my home. look what happened to AU when they banned guns. Nazi's took over pretty fast.
laslty do you know why no one invades America? Its because 70,000,000 Americans own guns. consider the fact that a small % of all registered guns are used in a violent crime. however a large % of crimes are stopped because someone has the ability to defend themselves. the real answer is more stiff punishment for people who get caught with an unregistered firearm.

And let's not forget that there is a couple of schools in North Vegas on lockdown right now due to a student being found with a gun. What do you think the problem is? I can't even imagine being in high school right now....something like this happening then (I graduated 15 years ago) was not even fathomable. Where is the breakdown? Are parents a big source of blame? I know it seems so many don't care or too busy to care or whatever...they just don't know what's going on with their kids and expects their kids to be raised by schools. But now we have this happpening in Amish schools. What's the deal with that? Although we don't know the details yet. Perhaps another deranged psychopath like last weeks school shooting - where it was not another student just someone who shouldn't have been free in the first place.

Yes, there is a pattern. It occurs when the Republicans are getting bad pblicity
The pedophile problem of Foley was beginning to get too much news coverage. Had it continued, there was a possibility of the whole Franklin cover-up rearing its ugly head again, and revealing that most of the senior politicians are pedophiles, as a result of their initiation into the New World Order through organisations like the Skull and Bones.
So there was a need for something else to hit the headlines.
Therefore an MK-ULTRA mind-control victim, like the one who shot John Lennon, was wheeled out, did his job, and was disposed of so that no questions could be asked.
So the main cause is the CIA, the same people who created and performed 9/11.

Parents should step in and try to communicate with their children more. And instead of parents shrugging and saying to their kids its going to be alright when their child complain that they had a bad day at school. They should get to the bottom of the situation..take action by being involved with the school. Schools you have stricter security and metal detectors and parents should stop complaing about it because this can make schools safer.

I know. I'm at work & the television is on in the background. It's so sad & I'm getting so tired of children being put in the danger zone. I'm sick at heart to think of how far we've all spiraled into violence as a viable option. It makes me tired & weary. Why can't we put more energy into healing and helping instead of killing?
I'm so dismayed on so many levels & in this case....an Amish school???!!!
I guess this just goes to show that it can happen anywhere, anytime. :(

We can get better security. In Schools in Orange County we have an arm Police Officer in the school. I think thats what they need in all Schools in the United States.

What I am about to say sounds heartless but we need to take the glamour out of these situations. Hold back the media, send in SWAT to do what they are trained to do and end it

Its all copy-cat action for attention.
Blame the media. If they didn't report Columbine and every other incident then other people wouldn't try to copy them. (This same problem is what fuels car bombs in Iraq.)

Stop praising guns and violence in general, and stop putting people down who are in favor of peace. This society is so in love with violence and then we wonder why kids act out in violent ways...how ELSE are they to act?
