I've gone on about this one before, at length....but what it boils down to is that American people, by and large, have been *browbeaten* by their Mass Media into a state of Stockholm Syndrome for the past 26 years.
Ever since Reagan, really, it's been not just ok, but Official Policy, to hate on the poor and on the down-and-out groups in our society as an "antidote" to that "root of all evil", Political Correctness. And that "cure" is worse than the disease. And basically, anyone who *dares* resist that program, who dares to care for the working citizen, or for the poorer half of the nation, or to actually get a spine and *speak out* for anyone BUT those CEO Class, One Percenter Cliques (or the Religious Fundie droolers who endlessly suck up to them off-camera), they end up getting openly and publicly attacked, slandered, libeled and humiliated in the Media. You end up with some *blondebitch* writing whole *Books* about how "Godless" you are for daring to disagree with That Latter-Day Marie Antoinette, a.k.a. Laura Bush, for dissing the *Katrina survivors* at the SuperDome....
Really. It is that simple. People are by and large *already* so harrassed at work just for the "almighty privilege" of earning a living from their Plantation Massuhs, and so *in denial* over their role in supporting Big Oil, and by extension Big Terror, that when it comes to politics, they are already deranged...
They can't make it stop. They say "no" but keep right on *Doing Yes*, and continue to suck up to and openly sympathize with their societal abusers.
And frankly, it sucks. It means we are screwed. It means the habit we've had since *Plymouth Rock*, before an America or a Constitution were even *thought of*, of being scrappers, of being willing, ready and *able* to fight against the powers that be for our civil and human rights, that habit has died.
Which means we are in deep, deep trouble. We need to get a spine and fight for ourselves again, post-haste.

The educational system and PC doomed future voters. It does take some grey matter and focus but the youts prefer to play video games and work out their frustrations there. The ballot box is so old hat and the creatures who run for office, the majority are creatures, desperately want the perks and they pander to whatever majority they think will elect them. Like automatons, the electorate glued to dogma goosestep toward the ovens.
You are a wise person who should run for office. Problem is, you will not get elected because you don't know how to play the slime game to be elected. If the good ones step up they will be demonized and the "good" people of the community will slay them, so to speak. With illegal aliens swarming about and the activists ready to pounce, attention is elsewhere. It will take terrorist bombs set off to get the attention of the under 30 crowd as they sip their frappacinos outside Starbucks. America is in such serious decline that it cannot come back. Europe is just about finished culturally speaking and they are teetering economically. The U.S. cannnot get out of Iraq and other middle eastern countries because that is where the end will come. Reality bites.

Primary complacency.
The level of personal activism has declined directly proportional to the increase in availability of residential entertainment.
In a nut shell 19th century and prior Americans spent several hours a day reading and speaking about the human condition. As radio and later TV became available Americans became watchers not pro-activists.
Today American are so lazy that Plutocrats have taken over the entire political theater.

The American way is to follow the election process...
Plenty of Republicans have voiced opinions contrary to Bush's and as a consequence, some of his plans have been tabled...
Of course, for you, the issue is the Iraq war. Like it or not, the Republicans in Congress still see the President's plan as viable...

Im a registered democrat, but I usually like to vote against the person currently in office even if they are from my party.
Its better to have constant change than have one person get too comfortable in office, that way they know they are accountable to the people who elected them.
