If my sex partner was using drugs during conception what are the risks of the baby being born with birth defec

If it was the man using drugs, not very high. The sperm were already developed and not effected by drug use. Birth defects are usually genetic, or occur during development because the MOTHER was using drugs. If the mother uses drug, the environment in which the baby is growing is hostile. The man doesn't have much to do with it (unless his genes are messed up).

I agree with the previous poster who said that if you aren't responsible enough to stay off drugs then you shouldn't be having children. Come on now. You know that the chance for birth defects, crack babies, fetal alcohol syndrome is all very high---ESPECIALLY at conception and the first tri-mester of pregnancy. If I missed the drug or drugs that she uses, so what. You have to know these things if you are old enough to be having sex at all.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. My husband was in the military and he was getting the Anthrax shot series while we were trying to get pregnant... the docs told me we shouldn't worry unless it was myself who was getting the shots. Kinda like the same idea. There is also tests that they do during your pegnancy to test for birth defects. So relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Good luck, hope it all works out great for you.

Alot higher than if she wasn't. If you aren't responsible enough to stay off drugs when getting pregrant, you aren't responsible enough for a child.
